Mr. Ray begins his ninth year as Principal at Pepperell High School. After 31 years of service in Alabama, Mr. Ray joined the PHS faculty as Assistant Principal for Discipline in 2001. He was elevated to the position of Principal in July 2002.

In the summer of 2006, Mr. Ray was recognized by Governor Sonny Perdue and Superintendent Cathy Cox as "High Performance Principal," one of only 100 honored in Georgia. Mr. Ray earned the award because of the high academic achievement of PHS during school year 2005-06. Only 17 high schools were selected for this tribute and the recipients were acknowledged at a reception of the Governor's Mansion.

Mr. Ray and his wife, Lynda, and 8th grade teacher at Pepperell Middle, have two children: son Michael, his wife Amanda, and grandson Michael, Jr. and Matthew reside in Memphis, TN, and daughter Laura is a CPA in Birmingham, AL.

Sarah Whitley

Mrs. Whitley graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. She received a Masters Degree in Education from Berry College in 1991. Administrative certification was added at the Masters level in 1999 from the University of Alabama in Gadsden, and a Specialist in Education Degree from Jacksonville State University in 2000.

Mrs. Whitley began teaching home economics at Pepperell Middle School in 1986 and moved to Pepperell High in 1987. She taught at PHS for 14 years before becoming assistant principal in 2000.

Mrs. Whitley is married to Johnny Whitley, owner of Rome Dental Lab, Inc. They have two children, Jennifer and Jonathan, a daughter-in-law, Wendy, and four grandchildren, Sally, Mary Elizabeth, Johnny, and Ann Claire.

Jamey Alcorn

Assistant Principal

Mr. Alcorn is entering his 15th year at Pepperell High School, his second as Assistant Principal. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in History and Political Science from Shorter College in 1992. He earned his Master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University in 2006. He completed his Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University in 2008.

Mr. Alcorn was voted by his peers as the 1997-1998 Teacher of the Year, served as a teacher representative on the PHS school council from 2003-2007, was selected as the STAR teacher in 2005 and 2008, and was a recipient of the Dragon Club's Commitment to Excellence Coach's Award. Mr. Alcorn is married to the former Mary Conn, who is the Principal at Garden Lakes Elementary.
